NutriSystem has been in the weight loss industry since 1972. They went online around 1999, making them one of the first diets to help people lose weight online. This is probably the reason they can offer so many tools and freebies to clients - they've had the time to develop them and see what works and what doesn't. Nutrisystem's diet delivery program is called Nutrisystem Advanced (it used to be called Nutrisystem Nourish) and is based on a diet of low Glycemic Index, "good carb" foods with the addition of Omega 3 fats for heart health. The meals are also low in fat and include enough protein and fibre to help keep your blood sugar stable. With the program you eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert every day (plus other fruits and vegetables that you buy yourself). How It Works: You choose the program that fits your needs (Women’s, Men’s, Women’s Over 60, Men’s Over 60, Type II Diabetic or Vegetarian). Then choose the foods you’d like to eat from 120 prepackaged entrees, snacks and desserts. You’ll select one breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert for each day. (You can also elect to choose the 'Favorites' menu where the meals are chosen for you based on popularity) You order 28 days at a time. Once you place your 28-Day order, your food will arrive around 6-10 business days later, along with a Welcome Kit featuring a checkbook-sized Meal Planner and several other free bonuses like an Exercise DVD and 'Mind Makeover' plan. When you receive your NutriSystem foods, you don't need to refrigerate or freeze them. They can be stored at room temperature in a cupboard or on the countertop. They come with heating instructions and usually take about 5-10 minutes to prepare. Although about 1/3 of Nutrisystem meals do have some preservatives, there is no MSG or aspartame used in the food - a huge selling point for many people concerned about health. Editor's Conclusion: Highly Recommended Nutrisystem has probably the best track record of any diet delivery service - having been one of the first companies to take weight loss online. They also have some of the best weight loss results in the industry. The meals are not necessarily 'gourmet'. However they have improved greatly in taste, are easy-to-prepare and much healthier than most other ready-to-prepare meals you'll find with other programs. The selection is excellent and we also like the fact that you can choose your menu - which you cannot do with many other diet delivery programs. The freebies you get with the program are also excellent: free exercise DVD, Mind Makeover, starter kit, unlimited counselling and online tracking tools. Overall, if you want an affordable weight loss program with great tasting food, 'healthy' carbs, design-it-yourself menu and plenty of online support, Nutrisystem offers excellent value.
