These are both two very popular home delivery diet plans that deliver all over the continental U.S. (and in Nutrisystem’s case to Canada as well).
However they are very different diet plans.
So what are the main differences between them?
And which is best for you?
Here’s what you need to know about how they compare to help you decide:
Bistro MD vs Nutrisystem – The Food
Most Nutrisystem foods are “packaged for portability” meaning they do not need to be refrigerated. There are some preservatives used in meals that are generally recognized as safe by the FDA.
Meals choices include comfort food options like pizza, mac and cheese and hamburgers.
They have also introduced a new line of more gourmet frozen meals like Chicken Parmesan and Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast. However these meals are only available on the premium plan – Uniquely Yours.
Meals on Nutrisystem are much smaller than on Bistro MD. They’re really more like snacks. For example some of the items Nutrisystem considers to be “meals” are bars, biscotti bites or a small muffin.
Bistro MD on the other hand has much larger meals – and they are much more gourmet.
Some examples of meals you get on Bistro MD include Hickory Smoked BBQ Beef with Yukon Gold Potatoes and Garlic-Seasoned Green Beans, Turkey Breast with Cranberry Chutney, Wild Rice Blend and Broccoli, and Pork Tenderloin with Spiced Apple Chutney and herb-roasted root vegetables with bacon.
Meals with the Bistro MD service are made with fresh, whole ingredients and have no MSG, aspartame, trans-fats or chemical fillers. They also try to sourcing rBGH-free beef, hormone-free chicken and produce from local, family-owned farms whenever possible.
So at the end of the day Bistro MD takes the prize for healthier, fresher, larger meals than Nutrisystem. However Nutrisystem does have advantages too – read on.
Bistro MD vs Nutrisystem – The Price
Nutrisystem is the more affordable of the two diet plans here – starting around $10 a day and up to $12 with their Uniquely Yours program. You can also save up to 40% Off your first order of Nutrisystem here.
Bistro MD – as you would expect for a fresh food delivery service – will run you a bit more. It starts around $22 a day. However you can save and get your first order for around $12.71 a day with this offer.
It’s also fair to point out that you have to add your own fruits and veggies to Nutrisystem – which does increase the cost per day slightly.
Bistro MD vs Nutrisystem – The Plan
These two plans are also quite different. The Nutrisystem plan consists of prepackaged meals and snacks that you eat throughout the day along with some fruit and veggies that you can add in yourself.
You’re eating around 6 times a day every 2 – 3 hours – which helps with hunger as your next meal or snack is just a couple of hours away.
You order 28 days at a time with Nutrisystem. With the Core and Uniquely Yours plan, there is the option to customize your meals (pick which ones you want to receive). If you get the Uniquely Yours plan you can also get some fresh-frozen entrees that are little bit more gourmet.
With Bistro MD the meals are made fresh with an emphasis on local, wholesome ingredients. So the meals must be refrigerated or frozen when you receive them. And you only get a week at a time.
You get a full breakfast, lunch and dinner with optional snacks every day. Here’s a pic of what your typical day of food would look like with Bistro MD:
You can order 5 or 7 day plans (if you want to take the weekend off). You can also go online and customize the plan at no extra charge. Another nice touch is that you can add in your allergies and they can design the diet around avoiding and food sensitivities or allergies you might have.
Bistro MD vs Nutrisystem – The Weight Loss
Both plans are calorie-controlled about about 1200 calories a day for women (a few hundred more for men).
Weight loss is about the same for both plans – around 1 – 3 pounds per week – although this will vary according to your age, gender, adherence to the program, general health and activity level.
One small advantage that Nutrisystem has however is they have a super-fast intro diet portion called Turbo 10.
This is a more calorie-restricted intro diet you do at first to jump-start your weight loss that includes specialty shakes. You can lose up to 10 pounds and 5 inches in your first month. So if you want a slightly faster way to lose weight, this is an option.
Bistro MD vs Nutrisystem – Bottom Line?
So which is best for you? Well, each has their advantages. Nutrisystem has the fast intro diet that helps jump-start your weight loss. The diet is also a bit more affordable.
However Bistro MD’s meals are far superior. You get more food every day and it’s healthier overall with no preservatives or fillers.
So it really comes down to what you’re looking for.
